About Donna
Donna Lawrence is an Associate Professor of Mathematics where she has served since 1993. She earned her MEd in Mathematics Education Bob Jones University in 1993 and wrote a thesis in partial fulfillment of that degree entitled An Examination of Factors in High School Mathematics Instruction that Affect College Students' Aptitude in and Attitude toward Mathematics. From her own earliest days of learning Algebra, she not only enjoyed the math for its own sake, but loved helping others to understand it as well. She is passionate about teaching basic-level math courses like the Developmental Math modules Ma 080 and Ma 090 required for students with low ACT or SAT math scores. Her goal is to help students to build a secure mathematical foundation either for future math courses or for life applications.
Mrs. Lawrence grew up on the Bob Jones University campus, the child of faculty members Lance and Janet Flower. Their more than forty years of dedication to the mission of the University and to their students inspired her to want to serve the Lord here as well. In addition to her teaching in the University, Mrs. Lawrence assists the BJU Press and other companies with database applications.
Mrs. Lawrence is very involved in her church, Heritage Bible Church. She leads a Ladies’ Bible Study group, teaches the 4-year-old Sunday school class with her husband, and sings in the choir. She and her husband, Rick (who is an engineer teaching other engineers at BMW), have a son and a daughter in Bob Jones Academy. In her spare time she enjoys reading and writing stories. Her most mathematical hobby is playing Candy Crush, where she has passed more than 5000 levels!
