About Kathy

Mrs. Kohler graduated from Bob Jones University in 1977 with an undergraduate degree in Mathematics Education. She taught high school mathematics for one year in Richmond, Va upon graduation. Then she entered the work force as a mathematician for the actuarial department at Life of Virginia Insurance Company. After the birth of her son, she decided to be a stay-at-home mom for a few years.

Kathy returned to the work force as a high school math teacher in Maryland, and taught there for six years. She and her family then moved to Western Pennsylvania, where she taught high school math for 10 years. In 1998, her husband's job moved the family to Greenville, SC. Upon moving to Greenville, Kathy was able to begin working for Bob Jones University Press as an author of high school math textbooks. She coauthored the 7th grade and pre-algebra textbook. She also worked as a contributing author for the algebra 1, algebra 2, pre-calculus, and consumer math textbooks.  At this time, Kathy continued working on a master's degree that she had started years before. The MEd in Mathematics Education was completed in 2006.

After completing her master's degree, Kathy began teaching first year math courses at BJU. Her master's degree included 15 hours of graduate level math courses and 15 hours of graduate level education courses. She took an Advanced Linear Algebra course online from the University of Illinois to increase the hours of graduate level math courses to 18 hours. She has also been developing and facilitating online courses for BJU. To earn needed CEUs to meet the Center for Distance Learning requirements, Kathy completed a "Basic Online Instructor Professional Development Certificate" from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in February, 2013.
